We arrived just before sunrise at the international airport, breezed through customs in under an hour (barely), hopped into a taxi for an exciting, hour-long ride to Jorges Newberry Aeroporto (AEP) - only saw 3 wrecks - and caught the 12:40 to Iguazu (which left less than an hour late).
It was a beautiful flight over rivers, farms and swamps. The occasional scattered clouds creates beautiful paterns on the mud-red river. The red-dirt dirt roads stood out beautifully running through the green fields. It reminded me of rural North Carolina.
We arrived at Iguazu airport with no incident. On the way to the Sheraton, there were signs for animals. And they were serious about the speed limit - speed bumps every 1/2 mile. Got checked into the hotel just when the trails were closing.
We
took a short hike on Friday afternoon to get oriented. We only got chased out of he woods once. The ranger said there were only 7 kinds of poisonous snakes in the woods and we should probably stay on the trails.
Grace arrived at
7:30 and it was so wonderful to be together as a family. We had a good dinner
at the hotel and made plans for Saturday.
